NOC*NSF and TWIN are continuing their collaboration on the national high-performance sport strategy for the Netherlands. Last week, TWIN hosted a consulting day for NOC*NSF in Austria.

Building on past engagements, such as the 2019 TWIN Master Class for TeamNL@work and our 2022 keynote at the Dutch National Sports Centre, TWIN was commissioned by NOC*NSF in 2023 to provide guidance on their dual career strategy. In May 2024, the NOC*NSF “Topsportstrategie 2032” was published, highlighting the evolution of dual career from an infrastructural service to an integral part of Dutch sports culture.

From strategy to action

The implementation of the Topsportstrategie 2032 will involve eight key actions:

  1. Facilitate and enrich the TeamNL careers of high-level athletes
  2. Develop the knowledge and competence of high-performance sports executives
  3. Create a safe, responsible, and performance-driven training environment
  4. Establish high-quality sports and training programmes that compete with the world’s best
  5. Organize attractive top competitions and international sports events
  6. Ensure an optimal performance and development climate during TeamNL broadcasts
  7. Inspire and engage the Netherlands through high-performance sport
  8. Innovate on priority themes

Consulting on communication strategy and higher education framework

The consulting on 13 July, led by TWIN Founder & CEO Wolfgang Stockinger, was held at our Salzburg headquarters. Two half-day sessions focused on key areas of the new NOC*NSF high-performance sport policy: updating the communication strategy for dual career, and optimizing the national higher education support scheme for high-level athletes, FLOT.

The first session provided a customized communication toolkit, translating theoretical concepts by Aubrey Mendelow and Niklas Luhmann into practical applications. This toolkit enables the dual career team of TeamNL to systematically analyze and implement strategic adjustments in their communication efforts.

The second session built on insights from a recent programme evaluation of FLOT. It focused on advancing the national higher education support scheme for high-level athletes. Drawing from TWIN’s extensive experience from working with higher education institutes globally, as well as best practices from other European countries, the session identified potential improvements for FLOT and provided an analytical foundation for future progress.
